My Commitment to My Clients
I have the unique ability to relate to people of all ages, color, sexual orientation, spirituality, and economic status. I work to counsel in a judgment-free zone and allow my client to explore the possibilities of change.
Academics and Work History
Kian’s academic history includes an AS in Criminal Justice from Tunxis Community College Farmington CT, BA in Psychology from Westfield State University Westfield MA, and MSW from Smith College Northampton MA. In addition she is Certified Advanced Practice with Children and Adolescents, Springfield College, Springfield MA., and Certified in EMDR for treatment of trauma. Licensure is both in CT. and FL.
Clinical social work focuses in the areas of anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic stress Disorder, Addictions and Compulsions, Grief and Loss, Adjustment Disorder, Attachment Disorder, exploration and change.
Past private practice experience was located in Ellington CT, a suburban rural area bordering five other towns. Kian has extensive experience with the struggles that people encounter, in variations of individuals and families. The snapshot of the work includes work with people in the full span of age, gender identity, spiritual and socio economic status. Current practice in Florida is with individuals online with my home base in Ormond Beach, FL.
To continue growth and understanding of the needs in the local community, Kian is past Unit Chair for the Volusia Flagler County NASW, (National Association of Social Workers) and recipient of award 2019 Social Worker of the Year. This experience has enriched the relationship with peers and afforded the opportunity to present or moderate four presentations in the year 2018/2019.
Kian has worked with many clients who have experienced the full spectrum of trauma that include sexual abuse, physical abuse, witness/victim of violence, survivor of war and crisis, victim of bullying adult and child. Trauma can be big, or small, but if it interrupts functioning, it is a problem. The focus of therapy has evolved to be solution focused, often utilizing EMDR to resolve the past that creeps into the present. Symptoms of depression, anxiety and panic are often the issue that brings people to seek counseling.
My current practice in Florida is with individuals. I offer counseling support online, with a home base in Ormond Beach, FL.
